As we step into a new week, it’s inevitable that distractions will pop up. And before we know it, that scattered feeling takes over—and we’re juggling more than we want to.
Distractions used to throw off my day—so I created a simple process to pause, assess, and decide where to put my energy. It helps me stay focused while keeping my priorities front and center.
Here’s how: I ask myself a few simple questions that help me stay grounded, clear-headed, and focused—so I can zero in on what really matters. Here are five prompts I use at the start of each week and whenever I feel distractions creeping in. Let me know what resonates and which ones you’ll try!
1. What can you say YES to that lights you up?
Saying yes to the right things is important, especially when it’s something that excites you. Maybe it’s an opportunity you’ve been thinking about, a new idea you’re ready to explore, or a conversation that could spark something bigger.
Whatever it is, lean in and commit. What’s one thing you’re excited to say yes to?
2. What’s one thing that’s already working that you can build on?
It’s easy to get stuck on what’s not working, but what if you flipped the script and focused on what’s already bringing you momentum? Rather than reinventing the wheel, think about the areas in your business that are really clicking. Maybe it’s a marketing channel that’s starting to gain traction, a sales strategy that’s converting, or a process that’s making things smoother.
What’s one thing that’s working well that you’re excited to amplify?
3. Where can you express and apply one of your core values?
Your values shape your business—are they guiding your decisions each day? Whether it’s community, sustainability, or something else, look for ways to actively express and apply what matters most to you.
For example, if community is a core value, how can you engage with your audience or support another founder this week? If innovation drives you, where could you offer your fresh ideas or insights?
Where can you intentionally express and apply your values?
4. What action have you been avoiding due to fear, but would be excited to take?
Sometimes, the things we avoid the most are the ones that will move us forward the fastest. Whether it’s reaching out to a key buyer, pitching your brand, or making a big decision, hesitation keeps you stuck.
What’s one decision or action you’ve been avoiding that you could reframe as an opportunity instead of a challenge? And what’s a resource you already have—a mentor, a past experience, or even a tool—that could support you in taking the next step?
5. What will you say NO to because it’s not a priority?
Feeling clear-headed and focused isn’t just about what you do—it’s also about what you choose not to do. Not everything is urgent or important, and saying “no” (or “not right now”) is crucial.
What’s one thing you’ll deprioritize so you can focus on what matters most? Maybe it’s a task that can wait, a meeting that’s unnecessary, or a commitment that’s spreading you too thin.
